WEEK SIX DXB302

WEEK SIX- DXB302
This week we decided to explore the advertisements that we would like to place within our magazine. It was discussed that we would have to make and design our own ads as there will not be ads of high quality easily available on the internet. Therefore we came to the conclusion that we would have to make our own and that we would relate them to the content present in the magazine.
Advertisement Designs
The above images demonstrates two of the advertisements we designed and there placement within the magazine. The first advertisement on the left advertises furniture by the brand Cult. The placement of this advertisement appearing on the right hand side creates interest to the text heavy editorial page (yet to be completed) located on the left. We wanted the editorial to appear on this side as we wanted it to directly follow the table of contents which is on the back of that page.

The second advertisement on the right is of an advertisement of an interior design event called Denfair. The imagery is quite striking and then there are details of the event at the bottom. This advertisement has been conventionally placed within the event spread, which is yet to be completed, but will feature that events as one of articles. This advertisment has also been placed on the left as to draw the readers attention to the text heavy side of the spread as they turn the page.

Products/Books/Videos
The products/book/videos section was another spread where we experimented with the design layout. We decided to add a bold banner at the top of this spread as it isn't a main feature of the article. Therefore we wanted to place something at the top for the reader to create an instant connection with as if they were flicking through the magazine to try and find this section.

With this spread we decided to advertise different design objects that related to interior and industrial design. Therefore, because we wanted to show different objects on the one page, we decided to keep the images and text quite small with a large amount of white space around them as to take the readers eye on a journey. We also decided to not justify the text like we had done previously because there is a small amount of text that when it was justified it appear to boxy. The typeface of the designers name was also placed in bold and the name of the object placed in italics to create a stronger and instant visual connection with the reader (Bringhurst 2012, 40).
